Ichiro’s Malt Wine Wood Reserve is a blended malt created by Ichiro Akuto, founder of the Chichibu distillery, which is partly composed from the last single malt casks of the now closed Hanyu distillery. This rare expression is therefore an atypical blend for two reasons.
The first one is that it is composed of a subtle mix of single malts from Chichibu and Hanyu distilleries, but also of single malts from Scotland. This makes it one of the rare whiskies that gives the possibility to taste whisky from the Hanyu distillery founded by Ichiro Akuto’s grandfather and definitively closed.
The second reason is that all the whiskies in its composition have been aged in ex-red wine casks before being matured in Ovum barrels, which are French oak barrels made in Charentes by the “Meilleurs Ouvriers de France” of the Taransaud team.
